Professor Wang Tianyi was admitted as an honor student to Tsinghua University in 1980, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in electronics, a master’s degree in business, and a doctorate degree in economics. He joined Yantai University in 1988 and became one of the youngest professors in 1999. He was appointed Dean of the Business School in 1998 and Vice-Chancellor of Yantai University in 1999.
In 2000, Professor Wang became the Deputy Mayor of Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province, and was one of the youngest government leaders in China. In 2008, he was appointed President of Shandong Academy of Sciences. From 1997 to 1998, he stayed in USA as a Visiting Scholar at UCLA and University of La Verne. In 2002, he participated in China High Official Training Program in Harvard University.
Professor Wang joined China Everbright Environment (Group) Limited (former China Everbright International Co., Ltd.) (HKG: 0257) in January 2010 as Executive Director and General Manager and was appointed CEO in January 2018 and Chairman of the Board in September 2020. He has led Everbright Environment become China’s biggest environment company in revenue, profit and carbon-negative, and world’s largest waste-to-energy company.
Professor Wang was honored the “Best CEO in Asia” by Institutional Investor and Corporate Governance Asia in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021. In 2020, he was awarded the 2018-2019 “Green China Person of the Year”. This award was sponsored and organized by six prominent Chinese government organizations and agencies (including the National People’s Congress Environment Protection and Resources Conservation Committee, the National Committee of Population, Resources and Environment of the CPPCC, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment) and with special support from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It is the highest award established by Chinese government in the field of Ecology and Environment. He is also currently the Member of China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development
Professor Wang has published books and papers of high academic and social influences, which include Environmental Protection and Carbon Neutrality, PPP: Theory and Practice, Joint Stock Cooperative Economy in China, Accounting Information System, Sustainable Development Goals and PPP Standards in View of Globalization: China’s Choice, From Zero Waste Life to Zero Waste City. He published China PPP Annual Report as editor-in-chief for the past 4 consecutive years.
