Rapid economic growth comes at significant social and environmental cost. Inequality, poverty and violence are long-standing challenges. The effects of climate change – natural disasters – are increasing in frequency while natural resource depletion, biodiversity loss and ecosystem damage are worsening at unprecedented rates.
The United Nations General Assembly adopted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015 to solve these pressing social, environmental, and economic issues. Four years on, UN acknowledges that progress has been slow and uneven, leaving the most marginalized groups behind.
