On November 21, the Year-end Ceremony of 2023 SDG Innovation Accelerator for Young Professionals organized by United Nations Global Impact was set at Integral, Esquel’s picturesque Sustainable Development Garden. More than 70 representatives from the United Nations, United Nations Global Compact, local governments, businesses, and media attended the ceremony. Among the participants, six teams from three different companies presented their innovative solutions at the event. In the welcoming speech, Liu Meng, Head of China Office of the United Nations Global Compact, expressed that being responsive to rapid global changes is increasingly significant in designing sustainability-oriented strategies. To accelerate progress towards the UNSDGs, Siddharth Chatterjee, the United Nations Resident Coordinator of China, highlighted that subverting conventions is the key. Teresa Yang, Vice Chairman of Esquel Group, shared that the company has been one of the early members since 2000, and has led sustainable transformations in the industry. To forge a greener future, Teresa encouraged young professionals to think thoroughly, dare to explore, and innovate new possibilities. On November 20, Integral hosted the China-ASEAN Mayors’ Forum 2023’s subforum, themed “Building Smart Eco-Cities, Promoting Innovative Development with High Quality,”. Together, mayors from China and ASEAN countries, as well as Siddharth Chatterjee, UN Residential Coordinator in China; Jean Todt, UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Road Safety; Zhang Fawang, General Secretary of Center of Hydrogeology and Environmental Geological Survey; Marjorie Yang, Chairman of Esquel Group, exchanged ideas on how they can foster political, socio-economic development, and cultural preservation in parallel. Marjorie Yang emphasized the power of collaboration in striking a balance between urban economic growth, inclusiveness and environmental protection. Siddharth Chatterjee placed road safety as the top priority in urban planning and infrastructure. With China’s leading position in innovation, Jean Tolt was optimistic that China could be the role model for other countries in addressing complex urban challenges. To manifest green and high-quality development, Zhang Fawang believed that constructing energy-efficient corridors are practical solution in tackling climate change. Facing urban challenges, everyone has the responsibility to ensure the population’s safety. On November 20, DETERMINANT and Meituan co-hosted the Road Safety Promotional Campaign, themed “Ride Safely, Arrive Stylishly,” at Integral, Esquel’s Sustainable Development Garden in Guilin. The campaign echoed with SDG 11 – Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable and aimed to universalize the importance of civilized and safe driving.   Road Safety has always been a hot topic due to the tremendous casualties traffic accidents caused. It has deprived over 1.3 million lives every year globally. During the event, Jean Todt, UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety commended the 4 focused facets of this campaign – Road Safety Awareness, Promotion of Sustainable Transportation, Showcasing Best Practice, and Community Engagement. He advised all of us to pay more attention to traffic regulations and systems, commute safely and sustainability, in achieving the goal of reducing the number of traffic accidents by half. Cai Wei, Director of DETERMINANT, and Wu Qingmeng, Head of the Meituan Cycling Safety Affairs Management Center both stressed the collaboration between DETERMINANT and Meituan endeavoured the vision both brands shared – sticking to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and serving the community. As a platform that bolster sustainable development, Integral is grateful to host and witness the commencement of such campaign. Zhang Fawang, Party Secretary of the Hydrogeological and Environmental Geological Survey Center, China Geological Survey of the Ministry of Natural Resources, and Su Zhanhong, Deputy Captain of the Seven Star Traffic Police Brigade, the Traffic Police Detachment of the Guilin Municipal Public Security Bureau, also attended the event, advocating safety in commute. #Integral #DETERMINANT #十如仕 #Meituan #SDGs #RoadSafety #SDG11

Nearing the end of 2023 Integral Conversation, Hau Lee, the Thoma Professor of Operations, Information and Technology at Stanford Graduate School of Business, delightfully announced the launch of Integral Institute – an independent non-profit organization and a cutting-edge educational and research institution dedicated to sustainability and environmental stewardship. Professor Hau Lee was named the Council Chair of Integral Institute, leading its initiatives to offer a variety of programs and courses, activities, and networks that empower like-minded individuals and organizations to develop the knowledge, skills, and practices necessary to create a more sustainable future. Integral Institute will be hosting Integral Conversation moving forward. Professor Lee also introduced the progress of Net Zero agenda of Integral Institute’s two founding company members. As one of the founding company members, Mr. Edgar Tung, the CEO of Tessellation, announced the company’s pledge for Carbon Neutrality by 2050, then delivered his closing note to thank all the fellows and engagers.
