Norman Tien

Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Institutional Advancement), Taikoo Professor of Engineering and Chair Professor of Microsystems Technology, The University of Hong Kong

Professor Norman C. Tien has become the Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Institutional Advancement) at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) since 2019. He is also the Taikoo Professor of Engineering and Chair Professor of Microsystems Technology. He served as the Dean of Engineering at HKU from June 2012 to May 2018.

Prior to joining HKU, he served for five years as Dean and Nord Professor of Engineering at Case Western Reserve University’s Case School of Engineering. Prior to CWRU, Professor Tien served as chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California at Davis and held a joint appointment at the University of California at Berkeley. He previously held faculty positions in Cornell University’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He has also served as a guest professor at Peking University and received a distinguished title of Honorary Professor of Tianjin University in Tianjin, China.

Professor Tien received his Ph.D. from the University of California at San Diego, MS from the University of Illinois, and BS from the University of California at Berkeley.
