Jianyu Zhang

Vice President, Environmental Defense Fund

Since 1999, Jianyu Zhang has been working at the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), a leading U.S environmental NGO and advocacy group which uses market-based instruments to solve environmental problems in China.
Prior to this, Mr. Zhang helped found and manage the first Chinese joint venture environmental consulting firm, and served as China project manager for the U.S. Air and Waste Management Association implementing a clean production project on behalf of the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Mr. Zhang is an executive board director of China Association for International NGO Cooperation (CANGO), a Fellow of the China Fellowship Program, and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network. He has served as board director of Chinese publicly traded companies and advisory board member of Fortune 500 companies.

Mr. Zhang is a visiting fellow at the School of Public Policy and Management at Tsinghua University. As a member of the Lead Expert Group for China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED), Mr. Zhang advices the Chinese government on environmental and sustainability issues.

He graduated from Tsinghua University, Stanford University, and Carnegie Mellon University, and completed his PhD in Finance from the Chinese Academy of Social Science.
